I have an old motor you coil the rope around the top and then pull to start. On the top of the flywheel are the numbers 550123 I cannot get any info. The motor runs great you have to adjust the timing and the fuel to go faster. It has been repainted in the past and says Johnson but I cannot reference these numbers to any Johnson would love to restore it to origional but need to know what I got, can anybody help.

Your problem is from years of the wrong oil. Today a quality 2cycle oil will not let this happen. Your pistions should be checked, blowby causes the engine to backfire "crankcase combustion" it sounds like a sneeze in a 2cycle.
