I would look for an air leak. Your 5hp may have a fuel pump that air leaks or a stuck diaphram. Or a carb float problem, clogged inlet jet, bad reeds, bad main seals (the crankcase must seal on a 2cycle) I could go on for a while. It could even be a timming problem or bad rings, or clogged ports. 1) Do a compression test >80lbs is bad ideal should ne near 100 cold, try some oil in the cylinder, any change?. 2) Blow out the carb, you might try this first.
