I have a 1976 Evinrude 4 hp motor and I've replaced the points and need to know the gap spec. for them because I do not have a repair manual.

At this time my 3 HP Lightwin is running well. I've had it out 4 or 5 times and every time I use it, it seems to run better and better as if it likes being on the water. I really enjoyed working on that 3 HP Lightwin because it the same model that I grew up with and I brings back lots of memories. Little things like the way it sounds and the smells were brought back from memories of over 30 years ago. I am amazed that such an old motor can run so well and I get a lot of comments from other boaters who say things like “I remember my father having one of those”. Now that I have some experience, I also have lots of new friends who come over for help with their boats and motors. This is all good and well as long as it does not interfere with my fishing. I am anxious to finish up my 5.5 Johnson and 15 HP Johnson. I am not sure which I will do first. I am probably going to do them both at the same time moving from one to the other when I get stuck or need a part. I am amazed that the amount of visitors to this site is growing as well. Yesterday we had 124 visitors. The record so far is 126 and it is fun to see just how many people come and where they come from. There is a link hidden at the very bottom of the main page that you can click on and see for yourself. I also appreciate the fact that many visitors are clicking on the ad links which earn me money to pay for parts. It’s nice to have a hobby that pays for itself. So far I’ve made about $100 off those ads which is enough to tune up a motor. Hopefully these ads are of value to you when you go looking for parts and such. I enjoy reading your comments on this discussion board. I hope to build a community of users who enjoy these same small motors and can help each other out and share experiences. I also use the discussion board at http://www.iboats.com where I get many of my questions answered. I hope to hear more about peoples projects and how they turn out and maybe even some good stories of fishing trips with these old motors. Tom Travis
