I have a chance to purchase a 20 hp Johnson motor. The guy is not sure how old it is. He tells me they didn't start building that size until 1985. He thinks it is a 1985 - 1987. Does anybody know anything about this?

Hello Tom, You have a nice site you've built here and I wish you the best with it and for your and our enjoyment and help out here. My Father age 73, myself 48, and my son 9, have Vintage outboard fever ! We have a small but growing collection. Evinrude & Johnson's 1936 thru 1965 we have 2 Ducktwins 62 & 65 those are our newbies, all others are pre 50's. A couple Neptunes single and twin cyl. also a British Seagull. We enjoy reading the history and the discussions on your board, also other sites too, We are AOMCI members and live in North Central FLA., right next to the Suwannee River here. We get out on the river as often as we can. Using our more reliable runners in a small 10 ft. flat bottom jon boat to fish in. We just this past weekend rebuilt the electrical system in our 1940 Johnson Seahorse HD-10. It runs sweet now, it is so much fun working on and running these outboards. Bringing something that has not run for years back to life, hearing it pop off for the first time in so long.... Hope the site grows for you and we can all enjoy t greatly. We do try to visit your ad sites often. Are you going to have a page that visitors can post Vintage outboard pictures on? Adios for now, take care, Ken L.
