i had a 77 35 hp johnson. broke 3 gears found a 78 that was totally redone wires,foot, etc whole shabang. its running a little rough. wont stay running wide open. small skip to it. im sure its something simple but i need to know where to start. fresh gas, sta-bil and right oil ratio. cant get it to run wide open and stay there. fished yesterday and got it to run fairly well but as i was coming in i decided to clean it out again and asi was aproaching ramp i continued to lose speed and power. so i dunno

I purchased an old, old Evinrude Lightwin 3 from a friend. The serial# is 3022 10335. What model is this? What year was it manufactured? It runs well except I have had a little trouble with gas leaking from the carburetor. I probably need a carb kit. By trial and error I got the low & high speed mixture screws set. I was kind of surprised at the gas oil mix. On the engine cover it says 1/2 pint of SAE 30W to 1 gallon gas (16:1?). What mixture would be recommended with today's 87 octane/10% ethanol fuel?
