Replace the points and condencers they are under $30. and oftenthe problem if they are not good you can have a "skip" a rough idle, stalling, not starting, ect. If nothing else it is a cheap place to start.

Hi Im new here, I just bought a 1976 johnson 35 hp outboars model # 35E76G and im having a graemlin problem. first I found that I had no spark on the top cylinder, then after changing the points,condensers,and coil packs and plugs I found that it ran great while in a bucket or with the muffs, but when I get out on the water and try the boat with 3 people in with me the boat will just buck its self along not coming on plane or getting her RPM's up it will just run along with low RPM's( I dont have a tach) and every few seconds jump up (kick in) for a second and then continue to run logy, the "kick in" feeling feels to me like a big bang on the back of the boat as the motor jumps, I have done a compression test and it told me 150psi in the top cylinder and 145-150 in the bottom I done this 4 times and consistant readings, I have cleaned the carb and frequently replaced the gas, and now im ran out of Ideas. this phenomon dosent happen as bad when I am alone in the boat it seems to run fine except for every now and then the motor still bucks but not as abrupt and as voilent. im guessing strain is an issue for my problem but dont know where to go from here.
