I have a 1965 Evinrude Lightwin that belonged to my grandmother in Michigan. She passed away in l969. I can remember the times we fished together as a young boy on the Muskegon river. I couldn't it started this spring. I finally took the carburetor apart and cleaned it out where the old gas had stopped up some places. It runs, but not as good as it should. I think it needs a complete carb kit. Do you think this will help it run to its full potential. It isn't running as fast as it did at one time. I like to use it on the 12 foot aluminum boat, she also had, to fish in the Licking River in Morgan Co. Ky where I have lived for the past 36 years.

Get an ohm meter and check your timing using the method described on this site. The .030 setting .030 inches is a good starting point but you can get your timing perfect by using a meter or test light. This is more work but it is well worth the effort in the end. Once you know your ignition is right, you can concentrate on fuel delivery and your carburetor. Are your plug wires in ok condition. You might also clean or replace your spark plugs
