I came across a 5.5 (5514-14327)(yr.?) Evinrude at a Flea Mall and bought it (the guy said it ran perfectly, only trouble was starter cord was broke). Got it home and put a new starter cord in and it is very stiff. Have some compression and fire, but cannot pull it hard enough to get combustion. Engine has been converted to single hose and is in cosmetically good shape other than the cowl and handle frame having breaks (looks like it cam off of a boat being pulled down the road). Beofre I do too much to it, what are some things I can check to see why it is so hard to pull over? Would appreciate reply at chawk@ec.rr.com and/or this site. Thanks, Ben
