Gene, this is not as bad as it sounds,so good luck. 1--remove the engine cover, which involves the choke and the high low speed knobs. 2--you must remove the engine, this is not a big job. Remove the armature link spring clip, thats the silver clip about 3/4"long and holds a thin strip of metal about 1/2"wide and shaped like a 1/3 circle with a hole in the end under the clip that fits over a .round knob on the armature control lever. this lever is verticle to the engine and the bottom fits into the rear of the tiller arm. Below the little silver clip is a clamp that holds the the lever (or rod) to the engine with 2 small slot deaded bolts. Take the clamp off. Now, the rest is easy. Remove 7 slot headed bolts that hold the engine on and are underneath the engine. You will need a blade screw driver thats shaped like an L on both ends and about 4" long (about $3.50 at Home depot). Now, lift the engine up slowley so as to not injor the gasketno the bot. of the engine. Now you can turn the engine enough to get at the two pieses that need to be removed sothat you can pullthe shift lever out. They are the rod lever bushing and shift rod connector. The shift rod connector may not have to come out, it unscrewes from the shift rod but dont take it out if you don't need to. Next just pull the broken piece of the lever out, but be carfull not to loose the little compression spring that sits in a hole on the shifter shaft. Put the new shift lever in, thats Evinrude No.376490. You may be able to get one from Bill Kelly at Mastertech, www.maxrules.com Question, how long has it been sense the impeller was changed,you are about 95% there. Let me know if you have a problem.
